Ex- Legislators in J and K to get more pension, medical allowance

Srinagar, July 20 (UNI) The former legislators in Jammu and Kashmir will get enhanced pension and medical allowances.

The expenditure by the said enhancement is to the tune of Rs 3 crores per annum approximately.

The bill to this effect, to replace the ordinance promulgated by governor in June this year, was introduced by the Law and Parliamentary Affairs minister Tariq Ahmad Karra, who is also finance minister, in the Legislative Assembly here today.

The bill is to amend the '' Jammu and Kashmir State Legislature Members Pension Act, 1984.

The former legislators will get Rs 12,500 monthly pension against Rs 5000 at present and medical allowance from Rs 300 to Rs 500. It shall be deemed to have come into force with effect from Ist April, 2007.

It says that an additional pension of Rs three hundred per month be paid to a person entitled to pension under sub-section (I) for every completed year in excess of the term as a member of the Assembly or six years as a member of the council, as the case may be.

In the year 2006, the salaries and allowances of the sitting members of the state legislature were enhanced. Total emoluments admissible to sitting Members of the state Legislature are Rs 40,300 per month at present and the pension of former MP has also been enhanced to Rs 8000 per month.
