Elephant poached in Chhattisgarh

Pathalgaon (Chhattisgarh), July 20: A wild elephant has been poached by unidentified persons in the Jashpur Forest Division.

''Information was received yesterday about the pachyderm's carcass lying in Manora forest,'' Deputy Divisional Forest Officer R S Thakur said here yesterday. The animal's tusks and nails had been chopped off, he said.

Residents of two dozen villages in Jashpur district are being troubled by wild elephants. Last week, the beasts damaged houses and paddy crop in two villages.
