Rajkot, July 19 (UNI) Senior Congress leader and former Civil Supplies Minister Manoharsinh Jadeja today hit out at Narendra Modi-led government over continuous price rise in groundnut oil and other edible oils and demanded that the government should check them at the earliest.

Mr Jadeja, in a release here, said his party would stage an agitation on Mahatma Gandhi path, if the soaring groundnut oil prices did not come down at the earliest.

The cost of a 15 kg tin has reached a whopping Rs 1300, the highest ever, he informed.

He said in view of the 'Janmashtmi' Festival, which will commence from first week of September, the government should take immediate measures to contain the price rise so that the purchase of edible oils could become affordable to the poor and middle class families.

Mr Jadeja said, last year, during the Janmashtmi Festival, the price of groundnut oil had hovered around Rs 60-65 per kg. Presently the price of the commodity cost Rs 85 to 90, much higher than the expectation.

There is a nexus between government and groundnut oil millers, he alleged.

Earlier, Congress leader has submitted a memorandum to the district collector here.
