Kokrajhar, Jul 20 (UNI) The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) today decided to rename the Bodoland Territorial Autonomous District (BTAD) as Bodoland.

The decision to this effect was taken during the tenth executive meeting of the BTC, held at the BTC secretariat in Kokrajhar.

All the executive members and nominated members were present in the meeting which was presided over by BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary.

The proposal had been sent to the state government for approval.

Lower Assam's BTAD comprise four districts - Kokrajhar, Chirang, Udalguri and Baska.

The autonomous district was declared in 2003 following the BTC Accord signed in February 10 that year.

Former rebels of the disbanded Bodoland Liberation Tigers (BLT) - which was fighting for an independent Bodoland - formed a political outfit, Bodoland People's Progressive Front (BPPF), led by Mohilary, which went on to clinch the power of the council in the maiden election to the council held so far.
