BKU concern over corruption

Moga, July 20 (UNI) Bharti Kisan Union (Lakhowal) expressed concern over the alleged corruption prevalent in the State Revenue Department and State Electricity Board.

In a meeting of State Executive held here today, the BKU stated that the prevalent corruption was causing considerable harassment not only to farmers but to people in general also.

BKU General Secretary Bhupinder Singh Mahesari while talking to newsmen after the meeting, said "the State Executive has directed all its district units to prepare a list of corrupt officials with details of their property. This list will be submitted to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal by Punjab Mandi Board Chairman to initiate vigilence enquiry against the corrupt officials." In the meeting, the BKU State Executive also directed all the workers of the union to educate the people especially the farming community about the government's pro-people policies.

The State Executive demanded that Minimum Support Price of Padddy be fixed at Rs 866 per quintal.

By another resolution BKU also urged Centre to press upon the NABARD to withdraw its decision of enhancing two per cent interest on cooperative loans to the cooperative societies as it will directly hit the farming community.
