Hyderabad, July 20 (UNI) Leaders of the BJP today urged the Andhra Pradesh Government to take up the second flood flow tunnel from Srisailam reservoir to cater to the drinking and irrigation water needs of drought prone areas and fluoride affected people of Nalgonda district.

In a letter to Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, they said it was reported that about 600 TMC of flood water from river Krishna was draining into the Bay of Bengal every year.

Instead of draining flood water into sea it was desirable and necessary that people of Nalgonda were relieved of the suffering from fluoride disease by constructing a parallel or second tunnel.

They said the project would alleviate the sufferings of people of Nalgonda as this would help for taking up the existing Dindi reservoir to another big storage point to cater to the needs of Nalgonda district people.

They also urged the Chief Minister to take up 'flood flow canal from Jurala project to alleviate the sufferings of people of upland areas of Mahabubnagar and Tribal's habitated areas of Nalgonda district. They asked the government to pass an order to invesitage and prepare a report on the project.

They said 85 per cent of the catchment areas of river Krishna were located and pass through Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda district and the 600 TMC of flood water which unutilised and going into sea could be utilised to alleviate the sufferings of the people of both districts.
