BJP against abolishing of local bodies and panchayats posts
Lucknow, July 20 (UNI) BJP in Uttar Pradesh today opposed the proposed move of Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party government in abolishing various posts of local bodies and panchayats.
''There is a clear intention of the government to appoint an administrator in order to take indirect control over the local bodies and panchayats,''BJP legislator party leader Om Prakash Singh told reporters here.
He said the Mayawati government was coming out with an ordinance in this regard which would be against the spirit of articles 73 and 74 of the constitution.
According to BJP, the posts of Deputy Mayor, senior and junior block pramukhs of panchayats are being abolished. ''It is a blatant case of misuse of majority and denying public representatives their rights,'' the BJP leader said.
Earlier, a delegation comprising of Mr Singh and senior leaders Lalji Tandon, Sheema Rizvi and Lalloo Singh met the UP Governor T V Rajeswar and handed over a memorandum in this regard. The memorandum urged the Goevrnor not to give his assent.
