Akal Takht takes note of Sidhu's 'mahayagya'

Amritsar, July 20 (UNI) The participation of cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh in a 'Rudar Mahayagya' at a local temple may invite the wrath of the Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs.

The Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) has already demanded action as per Sikh tenets against the high profile BJP Lok Sabha member.

The party leaders said that Sidhu's participation in such a ceremony was against Sikh 'maryada' (tenets) and hence he should be summoned to the Akal Takht.

Meanwhile Akal Takht Jathedar Joginder Singh Vidanti who attended a religious meeting at Takht Damdama Sahib at Talwandi Sabo yesterday indicated that if a formal complaint was made in this regard then it would be considered by the Takht. Th SAD (Amritsar) is contemplating lodging a formal complaint with the Jathedar when he returns here.

Sidhu participated in the 'Rudar Mahayagya' at Baba Lal Dayal temple in the Santokhsar area on Wednesday alongwith his wife Navjot Kaur.

As part of this ceremony, for the next 44-days, Sidhu will speak nothing but the truth and would be on a vegetarian diet. The ritual also entails him to sleep on the floor.

After the ceremony, Sidhu had contended that he had undertaken the 'Mahayagya' for the well being of him family and for the peace of the mind. He however contended that while abiding by the rules he would continue to perform his political and professional obligations.

Sidhu has made a mark on the small screen by hosting various programmes including the laughter show is a stauch believer in astrology, Vaastu and the magical powers of gems. He practices yoga and through the 'Mahayagya' he hopes to control him temper.

Sidhu is hopeful that the ritual would help him to get rid of all negativity and would give him the energy to perform better in all walks of life.
