5 lakh houses constructed for poor in three years: Minister
Bangalore, July 20 (UNI) Karnataka had built five lakh houses for the poor under various State and Center sponsored schemes since 2004, Housing Minister D T Jayakumar informed to Karnataka Legislative Council here today.
Replying to Bharatiya Janata Party member Ms Shobha Karandlaje, the Minister said that over Rs 1471 crore had been spent to construct 517,779 houses under Ashraya, Ambedkar, Indira Awaz schemes.
The minister also informed that while the construction of over 224,394 houses were under various stage, another 213,713 houses would be taken up.
According to a survey conducted in 2003, over 25 lakh people in both rural and urban areas had no shelter of their own and government had proposed to construct over 520,000 houses during 2007-08 under various schemes.
