Guj: 300 tons of garbage eradicated in Saurashtra

Surendranagar (Gujarat), July 20: In a major cleanliness drive here today, about 300 tons of garbage was eradicated from this city of Saurashtra region, which is in the grip of water-borne diseases following heavy rains.

''Considering the limited manpower in our municipality, we had to seek help from Rajkot Municipal Corporation to launch cleanliness drive in the city,'' a senior official in Surendranagar Muncipal Corporation told sources.

According to a district health department official, 3200 patients are suffering from water-borne diseases in 16 government and private hospitals in Surendranagar, about 180 km from the state capital of Gandhinagar.

The rain continued in the district with 18 mm rainfall recorded in Surendranagar city yesterday. Apart from floods, the monsoon resulted in agriculture fortune for the district where sowing operation has been done on 1,1500 hectors of land.
