3 killed and 20 injured in Srirampur blast

Guwahati, July 20: At least four people were killed and 20 others injured when a powerful bomb ripped apart the busy Srirampur Chariali area in Kokrajhar district this morning.

According to official sources here, the bomb was kept in a shop and all the four, who died in the blast, were in the shop when it exploded at around 1050 hrs.

The militant organisation responsible for it could not be verified yet. No one has claimed responsibility for the blast.

Srirampur is the commercial hub as well as the entry point to the North East from West Bengal. It is the main link to the rest of India and during the time of blast more than 3500 trucks were there.

The police said that there were at least 20 injured, of which three were slated to be in critical condition as they received shrapnel injuries.

The details are awaited. The area was under the domination of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) militants, which are now enjoying ceasefire agreement with the Union Government.
