Voting begins for Presidential polls in J

Srinagar, July 19 (UNI) Voting to elect the 13th President of the country began at the Jammu and Kashmir assembly here this morning amid tight security.

UPA-Left nominee Pratibha Patil is pitted against NDA-backed independent candidate Bhairon Singh Shekhawat for the top post.

The state assembly has a strength of 87 members, these include 25 National Conference, 21 Congress, 18 Peoples Democratic Party, 4 Panthers party, 2 CPI(M), one each Jammu State Morcha, Democratic Morcha, Awami league, BJP, BSP and 12 Independents.
