Villagers pull down Tata Motors boundary walls at Singur
Singur, July 19 (UNI): Police burst some tear gas canisters when a local violent mob clashed with them after pulling down a portion of boundary wall of Tata Motors Small Car Project here this morning.
A large contingent of police rushed to the spot as the villagers refused to leave and enganged in pitch battle with riot police amids rains.
SDPO, Chandernagar, Kalyan Mukherjee said the villagers under the banner of Krishi Jami Raskha Committee pulled down about 8-foot wide boudnary wall of the propsoed factory at Khaserveri village taking advantage of the rain. When the policemen, stationed in nearby camps, arrived at the spot the villagers attacked them with stones and other missilies, he added .
"We had to burst few round of tear gas canisters to disperse the mob" the SDPO said.
However, despite being chased away the villagers kept regrouping and continue to strike at policemen from differnt directions.
Trinamool Congress leader Becharam Manna claimed the villagers had also dismantled a temporary police camp at Beraberi Purbapara.
However, there was no confirmation from police in this regards.
