Six feared killed in Assam landslide

Guwahati, July 19: At least six people were feared killed in a landslide at Ganeshnagar area near Jyotinagar here today.

Police said the entire house of a person was razed to the ground after major part of the earth caved in following incessant rains since early this morning.

Six members of a family, living in the house, were trapped in the debris.

So far two bodies have been recovered.

However, Additional District Commissioner C K Bhuyan said the rampant encroachment in the city was responsible for the incident.

''The land belongs to the government and it has been illegally encroached,'' he told mediapersons.
