West Bengal: Short circuit in NSCBI's main runway

Kolkata, Jul 19: The main runway of the NSCBI airport here had to be closed for about 20 minutes today following a short circuit in a transformer of the navigation lights on the runway.

The defect was detected at around 1010 hours after which repair work was carried out. During this period, the secondary runway was thrown open to the air traffic.

Airport officials, however, said there was practically no disruption in domestic and international flights here.

The main runway had to be closed yesterday also for about three hours following peeling off of concrete surfaces near the runway's threshold.
