West Bengal: Scribes get anticipatory bails
Barasat, July 19: A local court here today granted interim bail to five mediapersons against whom police have registered cases under different sections including attempt to murder.
The cases were registered on a complaint made by the Superintendent of Barasat District Hospital after the death of a female child on July 13.
A host of advocates of Barasat Bar Association and other organisations of the lawyers moved the District Judge court pleading for anticipatory bail on behalf of the accused. They alleged the complainant and the police had maliciously registered the cases against the scribes, who were discharging their duties covering the mysterious death of a girl.
After hearing, District and Sessions Judge Bandna Roy granted bails in favour of Abhranil Mukherjee, Ratna Das, Asish Nandy, Swarup Tarafdar and Biswanath Diwanjee of different media organisations, against whom at least 11 charges including attempt to murder and kidnapping were registered.
