Prasun presents panel; Pal, Dey keep battle alive
Kolkata, July 19 (UNI) Even with the Jagmohan Dalmiya factor virtually out of the equation, incumbent CAB president Prasun Mukherjee today presented his panel for the coming election with worries of a fight for the post of the joint secretaries.
Talking to media on the occasion of presenting his panel, Mr Mukherjee said, '' I wanted my panel to be of my choice. However, everyone could not be accommodated and that is what happens when you are going to give a panel. '' '' Last night we had a meeting. There were many names, but all cannot be accommodated. If you have faith in me you have to go by my choice, '' he said.
On whether he was expecting a challenge for any post, the top cop quipped, '' It would be the best if we could have a consensus. But everything is not in my hand. '' While Samar Pal and Amitava Banerjee are his candidates for joint secretaries, Tushar Sarkar is the candidate for the treasurer's post.
The sitting joint secretaries are Saradindu Pal and Amitava Banerjee. While the latter had eased into the Prasun Mukherjee group, the former was adament of filing his nomination. Also amibitious about filing his nomination was Biswaroop Dey for the post of joint secretary.
If that happened, the post of the joint secretaries will be contested. It would be interesting to see whether incumbent treasurer Srikant Kalyani also fielded himself for another tenure.
However, the posts of vice-presidents were going to be unchallenged with Russi Jeejiboy, Nimai Ghosh, Indranath Dey and Subhasis Sarkar facing no counter panel till now.
With the verdict in the case that Dalmiya filed to contest the allegations of misappropriation and his subsequent expulsion from BCCI yet to come, it seemed the businessman has given up on his hopes of filing a panel.
The last day of filing nominations is tomorrow till four PM.
Besides, known as the ''bhisma'' of the maidan, the heartland of sports and games in West Bengal, Biswanath Dey had suggested that Dalmiya did not present a panel or interfere in the election as his case was still pending.
Dalmiya, who considered him as his mentor, will certainly understand the indications and do accordingly.
While a panel from Dalmiya lobby will be the biggest surprise, Dey had made it clear, '' I am neutral. But if you ask me how is Prasun Mukherjee as CAB President, I will say he is a hard worker and has vision. '' The CAB elections are due on July 28.
