Pune, July 19 (UNI) Pune Police Commissioner Jayant Umranikar today clarified that a parcel bomb, delivered to the software firm Cognizant at Hinjewadi near here last evening, was a crude one and not a live bomb.

Addressing a news conference here this evening, Mr Umranikar said the bomb was a crude version and not a live one as was reported in the certain sections of the media today.

The crude bomb was found in the premises of Cognizant Technologies last evening and defused at around 2200 hrs in an open area.

The Commissioner assured the citizens that there was no cause for concern as the bomb detection and disposal squad is well equipped and capable to meet any scare in any part of the city.

Mr Umranikar emphasised that Pune city is safe as regards to the terrorism activities as police have taken adequate measures in tackling the menace.

The parcel containing the bomb was sent by an individual, whose identity has been ascertained but refused to disclose his name. A police party has already left for the destination to nab the culprit.

Earlier, on July 13, the police had recovered a parcel bomb from the City Post Office here. The parcel then, carried a letter purportedly written by a youth who had mentioned about his love for a girl which was, however, opposed by their parents.

The earlier parcel as well as the present one had both originated from Ramnagar Anantpur in Hyderabad.
