Situation tense in Mokokchung dist of Nagaland

Kohima, Jul 19: The situation in Nagaland's Mokokchung district continued to be tense following a 'quit notice' served to suspected illegal migrants by the Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM), an apex Ao students' body.

According to official sources here today, the Mokochung Deputy Commissioner has warned that any individual found indulging in forcible closure of shops or causing harassment to shopkeepers will be arrested immediately.

He also directed all shopkeepers to keep their shops open assuring security to them and added that closure of shops woulld attract stern action including cancellation of trade permits.

AKM President Aodangnok had issued verbal instructions on Tuesday last to the suspected Bangladeshi migrants to leave the district immediately.

''Naga women married to such illegal migrants will not be allowed to leave the place,'' he added.

They also instructed the local businessmen not to employ such illegal migrants in their establishments and requested the citizens of the district not to provide them any shelter.

''Anybody who does will be treated as 'traitor' of the Nagas and deal with them accordingly.

The AKM also said these migrants wanted to destabilise the Naga social fabric by marrying Naga girls.
