Militant among 2 killed, HM commander arrested in J and K

Srinagar, July 19 (UNI) Two people including a militant were killed and one boy was injured while security forces arrested three ultras including a self styled commander of Hizbul Mujahideen in Jammu and Kashmir overnight.

In another incident, residents of a house overpowered a gunman after he shot at and wounded one person in the valley.

Handwara Superintendent of Police (SP) Haseeb Mughal said, police and 21 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) launched a joint operation at Wudderbala in the frontier district of Kupwara today.

During the operation an encounter was ensued in which a militant was killed and ten-year-old boy Javid Ahmad Sheikh was injured, the sp said.

A human skeleton was recovered from a migrant house at Venkoora in Barmulla this morning, an official spokesman said , adding that one identity card of Alif Din Bandy, resident of Panzla was recovered near the body.

Troops of 51 Border Security Force (BSF) and police arrested Bilal Ahmad Dar, a self styled Battalion commander of Hizbul Mujahideen during a joint search operation at Bandipora main town in north Kashmir today, a police spokesman said.

Dar was involved in many militancy-related incidents in the area and the arrest was a set back to Hizbul Mujahideen, he added.

In another case residents of a house overpowered a gunman after he injured one of the family members in south Kashmir.

A group of four gunmen had entered the house of one Mohammad Yousuf Ganie at Banghal Devsar in the south Kashmir district of Kulgam last night, a police spokesman said. They then shot at and wounded brother of the house owner Farooq Ahmad Ganie. However, other family members overpowered one of the gunman identified as Zahoor Ahmad Sheikh and later handed him over to police.

Three gunmen managed to escape, he said, adding that a massive hunt has been launched to nab them.

Security forces recovered a Self Loading Rifle (SLR) from the upper reaches at Tigri top in Kathua district and arrested two Hizbul Mujahideen militants along with two AK rifles, six magazines and 107 rounds of ammunition at Shatgund in Kupwara, a police spokesman said.
