Mah govt orders magisterial inquiry in building collapse
Mumbai, Jul 19 (UNI) The Maharashra government today announced a magisterial inquiry into the building collapse at Borivali in north Mumbai in which 28 people were killed.
Replying to the discussion initiated by Kapil patil (IND) on the issue, minister of state for urban development Rajesh Tope said the technical committee will also inquire into the collapse.
The 'Laxmi chhaya' building collapsed yesterday evening.
Mr Tope said the stability report of all buildings, which have completed 10 years, would be done after every five years and added that the kin of the dead would be given compensation of Rs one lakh while disabled will get Rs 50,000.
The speakers including Mr Patil, Madhu Chavan (BJP), Jeetendra Avad (NCP) and others raised the issue of illegal construction and structural changes being made in the buildings without the permission of the authorities.
