Congress member demands Equal Rights Commission

Hyderabad, July 19 (UNI) Senior Congress member Mohd Jani today urged the Andhra Pradesh Government to set up an 'Equal Rights Commission' to redress the injustice being meted out to the Muslim minorities.

Participating in the debate on the Sachar Committee report in the Legislative Council, the member also wanted the Fazil course being taught in Madarsas to be recognized on par with intermediate course.

Jani hailed the decision of the government to go into the socio economic conditions of Muslims.

He said in higher positions of the government, Muslims occupied only 1.6 percent and in services like CRPF and BSF their presence was nominal.

He said this was the reason he was suggesting the appointment of 'Equal Rights Commission'.

Earlier, TDP, member Ibrahim Habibullah Musquati claimed that the condition of Muslims was worse than the condition of SCs and STs.

He said illiteracy and poverty were the plague that were tormenting the Muslim community and added their social and economic conditions was pathetic. Though Sachar Committee had made it clear that Muslims were living in pitiable condition no action was being taken by any government.
