Woman kills children, attempts suicide

Tiruchirapalli, July 18 (UNI) Vexed over frequent family quarrel, a 26-year-old woman killed her three children by pushing them into a well and attempted to commit suicide by jumping into it at Usilampatti Othakalam Village near Manapparai, about 40 km from here today.

Police sources said there was frequent domestic quarrel between C Valarmathi and her husband K Chandran (35), a mason, over maintaining the family. Since Chandran did not get proper income, the family was suffering from poverty. The penury-ridden woman was forced to search for coolie work to feed her children.

Annoyed by the day's heated argument with her husband over the issue, Valarmathi took her three children, C Vinmathi, C Gayatri (5) and the one-year-old C Suresh to a nearby well and pushed them one by one and later tying a rock to herself, jumped into the well.

Noticing the incident, a passerby rescued her and later she was admitted to the Government Headquarters hospital, here.

The bodies of the three children were fished out from the well and sent to the government hospital for post mortem.
