VSNL launches 'Web Protect'

Mumbai, July 18 (UNI) Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited (VSNL) has announced the launch of ''Tata Indicom Web Protect'', a filtering application for the Internet today.

Collaborating with Netsweeper Inc of Canada, the 500 KB application can block access to specific websites, chatrooms and blogsites, and will be available to both dail-up and broadbrand subscribers, a press release here today said.

The application will have easy-to-use ''Parental Control'' interface, easy customization for users, over 40 categories of filter Internet content, time-based controls, detailed information on time, date and addresses, and block protocols like email, file transfer, P2P, and web chat.

The application can be utilized by employers to increase the productivity of their employees by restricting specific websites, and help parents prevent their children accessing inappropriate sites.

''This is in keeping with our philosophy of offering innovative solutions at affordable prices,'' said VSNL vice president (content&applications, broadband business) Mukul Sood.

VSNL is part of the 29 billion dollar Tata Group with 1,500 global carriers, 450 mobile operators and 500,000 broadband and Internet subscribers.
