Teacher accused of molesting minor girl student evades arrest

Howrah, July 18 (UNI) A teacher accused of molesting a class one girl student of Ballavbati primary school at Jagatballavpur of this district had not been traced even after police launched a manhunt.

An FIR lodged with Jagatballavpur police station alleged that Basudev Kotal had molested the five-and-half-year-old girl, that angered the parents and the neighbours, who put up a road blockade disrupting traffic on Munshirhat-Howrah-Amta state highway for hours in busy hours this monring. They also forced the closure of the school for the day.

The sordid incident came to light when the girl refused to go school since last Thursday and complained about the behaviour of the teacher for past three weeks. The neighbours, along with her parents, gheraoed the Jagatballavpur police station with a demand to arrest the culprit. A written complaint regarding the offence was also given to the Block Development Officer.

The girl today disclosed her harassment before the Third Judicial Magistrate of Howrah court in camera.
