Tea auction witnesses good demands for all varieties

Kolkata, Jul 18 (UNI) Supported by western India buyers and some overseas agents, there were overall good demands for all varieties of tea in the Kolkata auctions that held last week.

An official report here today stated there were good demands for the CTC, Darjeeling, Orthodox and Dust tea.

For CTC there was good demand as Assam variety sold irregularly and major blenders Tata Tea and Duncans were selective as western India buyers had operated on liquoring. Some 73,347 packages containing about 23,38,622 kgs of CTC tea were auctioned.

Darjeeling variety had also good demands as traditional exporters operated along with some local interest and major blenders with UK Continent lent good support. About 8,386 packages containing some 1,94,827 kgs Darjeeling variety were sold.

Orthodox variety had also good demand with selected well made and clean whole leaf and larger broken ruled. Middle East and CIS shippers lent good support, however, continental buyers were selective on tippy varieties that led to auction to some 34,194 packages of 8,19,829 kg tea.

Dust had also good command with 24,839 packages containing 9,11,189 kg tea sold as major blender and Tata Tea lent fair support, while the Western India buyers were active on the liquoring sorts.
