S R Nayak to head K'taka Human Rights Commission

Bangalore, July 18 (UNI) Former Chhattisgarh Chief Justice S R Nayak will head a three-member Human Rights Commission for Karnataka.

Announcing this to newspersons here today, Home Minister M P Prakash said the other two members of the committee were former IAS official B Parthasarathy and Retired District Judge R H Reddy.

He said a high level committee comprising presiding officers of the Legislature Krishna and B K Chandrasekhar, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and Opposition leaders N Dharam Singh and H K Patil, picked the committee members after deliberations.

He said the Commission would start functioning soon after the government order was issued.

Karnataka was the only state in South India that did not have a State Human Rights Commission.
