Reliance energy Q1 profit up 25 per cent

Mumbai, July 18: Reliance Energy, part of Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, has posted a 25 per cent rise in net profit at Rs 222 crore for the first quarter of the current fiscal compared to Rs 177 crore in the corresponding previous period.

The net worth of the company has increased to Rs 9,556 crore. The aggregate sales of electrical energy were 2,489 million units during the period under review, an increase of 12 per cent over the corresponding previous period, according to a release here.

The consumer base in Mumbai Supply area increased by about 0.2 lakh to 25.8 lakh consumers.

The Company's aggregate revenues from energy sales during the quarter was Rs 1,285 crore against Rs 912 crore in the corresponding previous period.

The Company purchased 1,337 million units of electrical energy from external sources, which is higher by 16.5 per cent compared to the off-take in the corresponding previous period.

The cost of energy purchased increased by 113.7 per cent to Rs 671 crore during the period under review compared to Rs 313.7 crore in the corresponding previous period, the release said.

Reliance Energy distributes 21 billion units of power to over 5 million consumers in Mumbai, Delhi, Orissa and Goa, across an area of 124,300 sq kms, the release said.
