Islamabad, July 18 (UNI) Pakistan today described as "unsubstantiated" some of the assertions made in the latest US National Intelligence Estimate.

The annual Estimate, a document that envisages input and views of all 16 US intelligence agencies, warns that the US and its allies will face a "persistent and evolving" terrorist threat in the next three years.

The report paints a worrisome picture of increased training at camps along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, giving Al Qaeda added capability to mount strikes on the US and its key allies.

While acknowledging Pakistan's important role in fighting terrorism, some unsubstantiated assertions have been made in the annual estimate, foreign ministry spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam said in Islamabad while commenting on the report.

She said that Pakistan was determined not to allow Al-Qaeda or any other terrorist entity to establish a safe haven on its territory.

In fact, Pakistan has done more than any other country to weaken and destroy Al-Qaeda. Pakistan continues to take effective action against any remnants of Al-Qaeda and other terrorist and extremist elements, she said, adding they would firmly act to eliminate any Al-Qaeda hideout on the basis of specific intelligence or information.

Ms Aslam said it did not help simply to make assertions about the presence or regeneration of Al-Qaeda in bordering areas of Pakistan. What is needed is concrete information and intelligence sharing, she stressed.

The spokesperson added that Islamabad had been combating terrorism first and foremost in the interest of peace, stability and economic development in the country.

We have also been cooperating with the international community in countering the menace of terrorism and have made a pivotal contribution in this regard, she asserted.

In fighting the scourge of terrorism and extremism, Pakistan is following a comprehensive strategy that combines the political, administrative, economic approach and military action where necessary.

Our position is very clear that any counter-terrorism action inside our territory will be taken by our own security forces...

This is the basis of our cooperation, she declared.
