Paddy scam referred to Chhattisgarh Assy Committee

Raipur, July 18 (UNI) Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker Prem Prakash Pandey today referred to the Questions and Reference Committee an inquiry into a 'paddy scam' involving siphoning off paddy procured under the Support Price Scheme.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, opposition Congress members were on their feet demanding a CBI probe or inquiry by a house committee. Mr Dharamjit and Mr Satyanarayan Sharma (both Cong) said that the Opposition had been pressing for a probe for the past few days but the Government had not been forthcoming.

Stating that the matter had already been discussed in the House, Mr Pandey sought the Opposition's cooperation for smooth conduct of proceedings. As the Opposition began raising slogans, the Speaker had to adjourn the House thrice. As the House reassembled, Mr Pandey announced referring of the probe to the Committee.
