One killed in rain-related incident

Alappuzha, July 18 (UNI) One person was killed today as monsoon rains continued to lash this coastal district of Kerala.

According to revenue officials, Harikrishnan (31) of Muthukulam Panchayat near Kayamkulam drowned near his house.

Yesterday, Gopalan (73), also hailing from Kayamkulam, died in a flooded paddy field.

The officials said several relief camps were opened in different parts of the district as more than 600 houses were damaged in the heavy downpour.

In Ambalappuzha taluk, 29 houses were destroyed due to heavy rain and storm yesterday. The KSRTC had also suspended several services to Kuttanad.

The agriculture land in Kuttanad was deluged and crops were destroyed due to waterlogging in the fields.
