MLA office: Karunanidhi slams Jayalalithaa
Chennai, July 18 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi today flayed AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa for blaming the DMK government for not building an office complex for her party MLA in T Nagar in the city.
Reacting to the protest demonstration announced by the AIADMK leader for July 20, Mr Karunanidhi, in a statement here, said after the DMK came to power in 1996, it had announced that the government would build MLA office complexes in all the 234 Assembly Constituencies in the state.
Later, the AIADMK came to power in 2001 and remained in power for five years, but chose not to build MLA office complex for T Nagar, the constituency which was then represented by DMK MLA, he said and held Ms Jayalalithaa responsible for the sorry state of affairs.
After having ''slept'' for five years, Ms Jayalalithaa was now finding fault with the DMK government for not building the office complex, he said. The T Nagar constituency is now represented by AIADMK.
Mr Karunanidhi also disputed Ms Jayalalithaa's claim that the DMK government had not executed the projects for T Nagar area sanctioned under the MLA Constituency Development Fund scheme.
Giving details of the number of projects being implemented by the Chennai Corporation, he said in all, project works to the tune of Rs 1.91 crore were being implemented. The only work pending was installation of a high-mast lamp, he said.
On local AIADMK MLA and Marumalarchi DMK (MDMK) MP staging a protest demonstration while Local Administration Minister M K Stalin inaugurated the new bus stand at Kovilpatti in Tuticorin district recently, he said the agitation was politically motivated as the place was chosen and work orders were issued during the previous AIADMK period.
