Kerala seeks Rs 250 cr assistance to tackle rain havoc
Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 18 (UNI) The Kerala Assembly today unanimously passed a 'resolution' seeking Rs 250 crore assistance from the Centre for taking immediate relief and rehabilitation steps in the rain-affected areas.
Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan moved the Resolution during the discussion on an Adjournament Motion moved by the Opposition United Democratic Front(UDF).
Mr Achuthanandan said those, who lost their houses and land in landslips and floods would be provided with alternate land and houses.
Food Minister C Divakaran informed the Assembly that the loss suffered in the monsoon fury was estimated to be Rs 400 crore.
The shortcomings in relief camps would be sorted out soon, he added.
Participating in the discussion, Opposition members sought measures on a war-footing to mitigate the sufferings of those affected by heavy rains.
