Jessop shelves Marine Park project in Midnapore
Kolkata, Jul 18: Jessop Co Ltd has shelved its Rs 3,500 crore Marine Park in Midnapore district due to land acquisition hiccups.
Speaking to sources, Jessop chairman Pawan Kumar Ruia said the project required 500 acre land.
The project would include huge ship building yard, cargo facility, integrated steel plant, cold-rolling plant and so on.
''We are going slow for land acquisition for this project due to the recent row over land acquisition,'' he said.
The project should be near the port due to the nature of the park. Therefore land in South Bengal was important, he said.
The land on which the company decided to set up the park in Midnapore orginally belonged to Kolkata Port Trust.
When Jessop applied for the project afresh to state government, the government ruled out fresh acquisition at this moment.
