SIT's probe Jessica's case unfair: High Court
New Delhi, July 18: Delhi High court today came down heavily on the Special Investigating Team (SIT) of the Delhi Police investigating the alleged nexus between the police officials and the accused in the Jessica Lall murder case.
Justices RS Sodhi and HR Malhotra criticised the ''dubious'' role played by SIT in shielding the accused persons in the murder case.
The bench observed that the probe by SIT was ''simply a waste of time'' and ''part of conspiracy between the accused and the police officials.'' The investigating agency is working to shield the accused, the court observed.
The court termed the probe by the investigating team as ''shoddy,'' putting a serious question mark on its credibility of senior police officials. Hearing in the case will resume.
The SIT, headed by Special Commissioner (Intelligence) UK Katna, had interrogated officials which include Arunachal Pradesh DGP Amod Kanth, Chandigarh Superintendent of Police, Vinayak Gogia and Additional Commissioner of police Sudhir Yadav.
SIT was formed after the acquittal of Manu Sharma and other eight accused by a lower Court last February despite strong evidence. After the intervention of High Court, the SIT was formed to probe the nexus between police officials and the accused as the court believed that police was working to bail out the latter.
In its report submitted today it stating there was no incriminating evidence against any police official that they tried to protect Manu Sharma, son of Congress politician Vinod Sharma.
