Goa Assembly lauds Bhakti for chess performance

Panaji, July 18 (UNI) Goa Legislative Assembly today congratulated Ms Bhakti Pradeep Kulkarni for winning silver medal in the Asian Youth Chess Championship held recently at Tashkent in Uzbekistan.

''She has brought laurels to Goa in the sport of chess,'' BJP Opposition leader Manohar Parrikar told the House while moving the motion immediately after it met to discuss budget proposals for the year 2007-08.

Replying to the motion, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat told the House that the government had sanctioned Rs 2 lakh as grant to the chess player as an incentive which would reach her shortly. The government, he said, would spare no efforts to encourage all sports including chess in Goa.

Speaker Pratapsinh Rane also joined Mr Kamat in congratulating Ms Bhakti for her superb performance in chess at the international level.
