CPM Punjab to observe Aug 15 as Anti-imperialism day

Jalandhar, July 18 (UNI) The State Committee of CPM Punjab has decided to observe the coming Independence Day on August 15 as Anti-imperialism day.

In a press statement issued here today, secretary of the party Mangat Ram Pasla informed the decision was taken in a two-day meeting of the state committee, held here under the chairmanship of Harbhajan Singh Hundal.

Mr Pasla observed that the committee took serious note of the rapidly deteriorating situation in the Malwa region as well as in the adjoining parts of Haryana and Rajasthan due to continuaous Dera Sacha Sauda turmoil.

Mr Pasla warned if the situation would not be controlled soon, it would provide fertile ground for the extremist elements to exploit people for their nefarious communal and anti-national designs.

He criticised the SAD (Badal)-BJP government in the state for adopting an indifferent attitude towards the atrocities and humiliation being inflicted on the Dera followers through forcible conversions and social boycott.

Mr Pasla alleged the Akalies were upset by the open support of the Dera followers to the Congress in the assembly elections that they wanted to ''teach them a bitter lesson with the covert connivance of their government.'' He urged the people to remain vigilant against the mischievous moves of the extremists and anti-human elements in both these camps and to maintain communal harmony at all costs.

They also decided to continue their mass mobilisation campaign by holding meetings in 2000 villages in the state and to mark the Anti-imperialism day by holding rallies and demonstrations at district headquarters on August 15, he said.
