Puducherry, July 18 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (CPI) in Puducherry today charged the administration with cheating MLAs and the public by 'supporting the managements of private medical colleges here.' Addressing the press,CPI State Secretary Na Ra Kalainathan said it was not proper for the administration to go on ''begging'' for seats in the colleges.

The Tamil Nadu Government had not only announced the quantum of seats in the state, it also got them. The administration should take immediate steps to get 50 per cent seats in all private medical colleges here, he added.

He alleged the administration was delaying the process of devolution of powers to elected local body representatives even after one year of the elections and said it failed to appoint state election commissioner and the state finance commission.

Mr Kalainathan said the party was not satisfied with the functioning of the police force as despite the appointment of officers on special beat, the crime rate remained high.

On the agitation by the anganwadi staff, he said it is not proper for them to resist transfers after becoming government employees and asked them to call off the agitation and join duty.

He also alleged the government had shown no interest in follow up up of party member R Viswanathan's resolution for statehood for Puducherry which was converted into a government resolution and adopted.

The government was also slack in implementing welfare schemes. To highlight this, the party would organise a political campaign for four days from this evening in Puducherry and Karaikal Regions of the union territory.
