Cooptex targets Rs 125 crore turnover

Chennai, July 18 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Handloom Minister N K K P Raja today said the Tamil Nadu Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society Ltd (COOPTEX) has targetted a turnover of Rs 125 crore during the current financial year.

Inaugurating the ''Adiperukku Handloom Exhibition'' at Cooptex headquarters here, the Minister said it was decided to introduce new designs on cotton sarees in the name of ''Ilaya Collection'' to attract the young and college going girls.

He said it was also proposed to introduce large scale design intervention in Kancheepuram and Arni silk sarees. There was another proposal of engaging the services of qualified free-lance designers on contract basis to introduce innovative designs and to impart training to weavers to adopt the design requirements of prevailing market trend, he added.
