Clash breaks out in Surat Dist

Surat, July 18 (UNI) A clash broke out between two groups in the Kosamba taluka of the district today.

The clash occurred this morning over the arrest of two persons -- Sardar Khan, an auto driver, and Amina Khureshi, who were held last night by the police, for carrying 100 kg of beef. The police had acted on a tip-off from Cow Savers Association, police said.

Angry over the duo's arrest, the people of the minority community attacked Cow Savers Association president Jaga Rabari this morning, sparking clashes in the area.

The Surat city police has brought the situation under control.

Rabari has been admitted to the civil hospital here.
