CII urges TN govt to set up Skill Development Board
Chennai, July 18 (UNI) Top officials of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has urged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to set up a 'Skill Development Board' (SDB) to offer uniform quality of education to deserving candidates and to upgrade the skills of the people.
CII president Sunil Bharti Mittal along with CII Southern Region Chairman P K Mohapatra, CII Tamil Nadu State Council Chairman Gopal Srinivasan and CII immediate past president R Seshasayee met Mr Karunanidhi and officials at the Secretariat last evening and briefed them on the findings of the Tamil Nadu skills report.
Mr Mittal stressed on the inclusive and sustainable growth for the State with focus on skill development and promotion of Tier II and Tier III cities.
Mr Karunanidhi assured the CII team that the state government would work on skill development initiatives.
During the meeting, Chief Secretary L K Tripathy said the state government had recently approved Rs 25 crore towards this and was regularly interacting with the industry representatives across different sectors to work on faculty training and curriculum development.
When Mr Srinivasan elaborated on the CII efforts to create a 20-year vision that showcased entrepreneurial spirit, cultural and heritage of the state, Mr Karunanidhi said promotion of Tamil culture was yet another area that could be effectively propagated by CII.
Industries Secretary Shaktikanta Das said during the course of 11 months, the State had attracted investment of Rs 11,000 crore, through 11 major projects.
