Baby elephant rescued from tea estate
Darjeeling, July 18 (UNI) A fifteen-day-old male elephant, possibly waylaid from its group, was rescued today from Moreon tea estate in Kurseong sub division, veterinary surgeon Uma Shankar Sen said.
The elephant after being given food and medicines was shifted to Bamonpokhari and attempts were made to move him to his mother and the group, Dr Sen said, who treated the animal.
Tea workers of the tea garden situated near Mirik found the baby elephant almost half dead and informed the authorities, who contacted Animal Husbandry department at Salbari near Siliguri for rushing medical help.
