Army convoy attacked in north Kashmir; no casualty

Baramulla, July 18: Militants today attacked an Army convoy at Main Chowk near here this afternoon, official source said.

They said militants opened fire on Army vehicles, proceeding to Srinagar from Kupwara, at the Main Chowk at 1245 hrs.

The Road Opening Party (ROP) and other security force personnel deployed in the area also retaliated and the exchange of fire continued for some time. However, militants later managed to escape.

A large number of people, including a sources correspondent, present in the area ran for safety.

Majority shops in the area remained closed after the firing.

Traffic was also suspended from the main road for about two hours.

Officials said there was no report of any casualty in the firing and the situation returned back to normal.
