Appeal to increase TN's Haj quota

Chennai, July 18 (UNI) Deputy Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Haj Committee Aboo Bucker has appealed to the Centre to increase the quota for Haj pilgrims from Tamil Nadu.

Mr Bucker, participating in the 160th annual Santhanakoodu festival of the 300-years old Hazrat Thasthageer Babasahib Darga here last night, said the present quota for the state was inadequate to meet the higher number of applicants.

He thanked the Centre and State Governments for their ''kind gesture'' extended to the Haj pilgrims from the state.

State Sports and Environment Minister T P M Mohideen Khan was also present among others.
