AP planning to increase storage capacity for farmers

Hyderabad, July 18 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Civil Supplies Minister Kasu Venkata Krishna Reddy today said the government was planning to increase storage capacity as it would help farmers to store their produce till they get the right price.

Replying to a debate in the state Legislative Council, he said he would soon go to New Delhi to talk to the Union Ministers about the possibility of building cold storages either at mandal level or atleast at divisional headquarters.

Conceding that there was rise in prices of essential commodities recently, he said Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had called for a meeting with him, Agriculture Minister and Marketing Minister to discuss the situation.

He said about 100 rythu bazars were functioning effectively and the rest were being activated.

Regarding complaints about the weights and measures department, he said several complaints were received about the department and steps would be taken to check the corrupt officials.
