AP Govt to provide 50,000 free power connections to farmers
Hyderabad, July 18 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Government has decided to release 50,000 new agricultural connections annually under the free power category, Energy Minister Mohd Ali Shabbir told the Legislative Assembly today.
Besides, additional power connections to farmers would be released under the Tatkal scheme, he said replying to Congress MLA S Udayabhanu.
It had been assessed that 1,44,169 unauthorised agricultural connections were there in the State, he said, taking a dig at the previous TDP Government for registering as many as 1,57,000 cases and sending 46,000 peasants to jail.
As many as 58,000 farmers had paid the required charges through demand draft for regularisation of their unauthorised agricultural connections and installed capacitors and frictionless foot valves, adhering to conditions laid down by the Government, he added.
