11 per cent health workers infected with Hepatitis-B in Tripura

Agartala, Jul 18 (UNI) About 11 per cent of people in the health service sector, including doctors and para-medical staff, have been infected with Hepatitis-B.

Speaking at a seminar on World Hepatitis Day yesterday, organised by the Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura (HFT) here, Director of Tripura Health Services Dr S R Debbarmma revealed that the hepatitis infection rate was comparatively higher among health workers than other sections of society.

''Statistics show only five per cent of people in general are infected with Hepatitis-B so far while the rate of infection is more than double among health service providers,'' said Dr Debbarmma.

HFT had launched awareness on the disease and proposed to involve village Panchayats and Anganwadi workers in various anti-hepatitis campaigns in the state.
