Sultry weather prevails in region

Chandigarh, Jul 17 (UNI) Sultry weather conditions prevailed in the plains of Punjab and Haryana following scanty rainfall at isolated places in the region during the past 24 hours.

Except Balachour in Punjab and Loharu and Jajjar in Haryana, there were no rains in the twin states and Chandigarh Union Territory since last night, resulting in hot and humid weather conditions at most places in the region.

Balachour, Loharu and Jajjar respectively recorded 32.1 mm, 30 mm and 10 mm rain overnight.

According to the Weather Office here, an Upper Air Cyclonic Circulation over Punjab and neighbourhood now lay over Haryana and its neighbourhood, extending upto 2.1 km above sea level.

Another Upper Air Cyclonic Circulation over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir persisted between 2.1 and 4.5 km above sea level and was likely to move east-north eastwards.

However, light to moderate rain lashed some areas in Himachal Pradesh with Sujanpur Tira turning as the wettest place in the state, recording 50.0 mm downpour, followed by Sundernagar measuring 47.1 mm and Solang Nala 17.0 mm rainfall till this morning. Pandoh, Bhang-Manali, Dhundi, Rampur and Kalpa also had monsoon rain.

Humid weather conditions prevailed in Chandigarh and its adjoining areas of Punjab and Haryana. The city had no rains since last night.

The Weather Office predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers at few places in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab during the next 24 hours.
