Mayawati suspends Gorakhpur DM

Lucknow, July 17 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today suspended Gorakhpur District Magistrate Rakesh Kumar Goel for his efforts to induce the minority community into adopting family planning measures through ''misleading promises.'' The CM had also ordered a probe into the case.

According to official sources here, Mr Goel had assured arms licenses to two members of the minority community, if they adopted the family welfare programmes.

The sources said there was no such provision as being propagated by the DM.
