Immediate implementation of Sachar report required: Naidu

Hyderabad, July 17 (UNI) Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu today demanded that the Centre implement the Sachar Committee recommendations for the welfare of the minority Muslims in the country, immediately.

Addressing a press conference soon after the House was adjourned for the day, he said though the Centre had agreed to implement the report from February this year, it had not taken any steps in this direction.

He said the Sachar Committee made several recommendations, including the creation of separate fund and increase of quota in educational and employment sectors for the welfare of Muslims.

Mr Naidu alleged that the Government was not committed to the implementation of the recommendations and the Congress governments would only give assurances and talk about Muslim reservations during election period.

He also alleged that the Government was trying to divide the Muslim community like other backward classes by following the policy of 'divide and rule'. He alleged that the government was creating ''unrest'' and was responsible for the state of affairs now in the country by not implementing the report.
